India registered record 0.5 million new Covid cases in 5 days

India is facing its second wave of Covid-19 with record number of new infections on a daily basis. As per the data released by Union Health Ministry its been five consistent days when the new cases of coronavirus crossed the mark of 1 lakh each day.

Within the last 24 hours the country has registered a record daily high since the outbreak of the coronavirus with nearly 1.45 lakh cases being identified. The recent addition has increased the country’s cumulative tally to 1,32,05,926 cases. The Covid related deaths has touched the mark of 1,68,436 with 794 fatalities within the last 24 hours.

Currently the tally of active cases in the country has reached 10,46,631 and the total number of recoveries at 1,19,90,859 with 77,567 recoveries within the last 24 hours. Meanwhile the country has managed to test 25,52,14,803 samples till now with 11,73,219 samples being tested on Friday.

Along with this with the launch of world’s largest vaccination drive against the ongoing pandemic on January 16, the country has vaccinated a total of 9,80,75,160 individuals as per the latest data by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Given priority to the frontline workers in its first phase of the vaccination drive followed by the priority to the people above age 60 and those with specific comorbidities between 45 and 59 years, the country has now made its vaccines available to all the individuals above the age of 45.
