Startups: As per government data released by the ministry of commerce and industry, the department for the promotion of industry and internal trade (DPIIT), there are more than 34,000 registered startups by September 2020 and has emerged as the job creators by giving direct employment to more than 4.2 lakh individuals. This is a significant increase from 1.9 lakhs job created by startups in 2016 having 16,105 recognized startups with the DPIIT. According to the secretary of DPTII, the data has been provided on the basis of the number of registered startups, adding to it he also stated that not all startups are registered with them.
