Union minister of Food and Public Distribution, Ram Vilas Paswan has passed away on the Thursday evening. He had gone through a heart surgery last week and was about to go through another one in the coming few days. The minister was in a critical state with complications in multiple organs. His son and the current LJP leader Chirag Paswan confirmed the news of his demise.

Hailing from the Shaharbanni village in Khagaria district Bihar, he was the dalit leader from Bihar who started his political career from Samyukta Socialist Party and reached Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1969. For the very first time he became the Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha in 1977 as a Janata Party member and got re-elected five consecutive times from the Hajipur constituency in Bihar. He was the man who served under five Prime ministers as a Union Minister and his party (LJP) which he formed in the year 2000 has been part of nearly all the national coalitions.
