Experiencing the fresh wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Indian Subcontinent has registered more than 1,03,558 fresh cases within the last 24 hours. With the recent spike in daily cases, India has now become the second country in the world after US to witness more than 1 lakh cases in a day.
The additional cases has led the country’s tally of total cases to touch the mark of 1,25,89,067. As of now the total number of active cases has reached 7,41,830 and the death toll has gone up to 1,65,101, with 478 new deaths in the last 24 hours. The country’s nationwide recovered cases has crossed the mark of 1,16,82,136 with 52,847 recoveries on Sunday.
As per the data by ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research), a total of 24,90,19,657 samples have been tested so far with 8,93,749 cases being tested on Sunday.
Along with this with the launch of world’s largest vaccination drive against the ongoing pandemic on January 16, the country has vaccinated a total of 7,91,05,163 individuals as per the latest data by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Given priority to the frontline workers in its first phase of the vaccination drive followed by the priority to the people above age 60 and those with specific comorbidities between 45 and 59 years, the country has now made its vaccines available to all the individuals above the age of 45.
