India starts exporting Covid-19 vaccine ‘Covishield’

Bhutan became the first country to receive the Covid-19 vaccine “Covishield” from India followed by the Maldives. The very first consignment of 1.5 lakh doses by the Serum Institute of India was transported from Mumbai to Thimpu in Bhutan as a gift by the friendly country. Another 1 lakh doses were shipped to male in Maldives from the Mumbai Airport.

The world’s largest vaccine manufacturer India has started supplying vaccines to its neighbors; Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal and Seychelles while the final confirmation is awaited from Afghanistan, Mauritius and Sri Lanka.

Following the event Ministry of External Affairs stated, “The Government of India has received several requests for the supply of Indian manufactured vaccines from neighbouring and key partner countries. In response to these requests, and in keeping with India’s stated commitment to use India’s vaccine production and delivery capacity to help all of the humanity fight the Covid pandemic”.
