Senior government officials hinted that India might have its own mobile app store, if received enough demand from the Indian firms. This platform can stand as an alternative to Google and Apple app stores addressing issues faced by the Indian app developers on the available app platforms.
It is to be noted that, there are around 500 million smartphone users and Google’s Android has 97% market share in India. However, Indian startups has time to time criticized Google and raised concerns over its policies, stating them as a barrier for their growth. Although India already runs a mobile app store that consists of more than 1200 apps, mainly consisting of government sponsored apps. Earlier Google has informed that less than 3% of the developers sold the digital goods in the last 12 months.
