Two years back, Microsoft immersed a prototype data centre named Project Natick in the sea which was near the Northern Isle. The main aim of the software giant behind this was to test if the underwater data centres are workable or not. The intention behind this was quite simple; an underwater data centre can deliver faster data to the countries and places which consist of less landmass and are near to the coastal areas. The oceans were supposed to provide a controlled environment and a natural cooling space.
This data centre project named, Project Natick can also be powered by renewable sources. According to the software giant, these underwater data centres are reliable and practical.
