Geological experts warns that as no big earthquake (magnitude 8 and above) has taken place since 500 years to ease the strain accumulated in the Himalayan region, thus it is likely to get prepared for it as it can occur anytime soon or in a few hundred years. According to the study done by the seismologist Roger Bilham, an earthquake of 8.6 magnitude is required to release the strain accumulated for the duration of 100 years, while 9.0 magnitude is required for the duration of 350 years. Along with this seismologists are certain that all the earthquakes occurred in the past 100 years in the region has loaded greater strain in the region.
