Google celebrates its 22nd birthday

Larry Page and Sergey Brin founded Google in September 1998 while they were doing Ph.D. from Stanford University in California. Google was originally formed on September 4, 1998 but the company celebrates its birthday on September 27.  The root word of “Google” comes from the mathematical term “Googol”. Google is a misspelling of the word “googol” which was picked to signify that the search engine was intended to provide large quantities of information. Honouring the word Google in 2006, Oxford dictionary has officially added it to its dictionary.

Google, currently led by the Indian –American business executive Sundar Pichai has turned 22 years old today, there is a special Google Doodle to mark the day for the search engine. This doodle shows that Google is celebration it’s birthday like everyone on a video call while staying at home. It shows the logo G is sitting in front of a Laptop and having video call with the other letters OOGLE.

Explaining the root word ‘googol’ in its doodle page Google has mentioned, “The now world-famous moniker is a play on a mathematical term that arose out of an unassuming stroll around the year 1920. While walking in the woods of New Jersey, American mathematician Edward Kasner asked his young nephew Milton Sirotta to help him choose a name for a mind-boggling number: a 1 followed by 100 zeros. Milton’s reply? A googol! The term gained widespread visibility twenty years later with its inclusion in a 1940 book Kasner co-authored calledMathematics and the Imagination.”

The company, parented by Alphabet Inc. has given us various platforms like browsing, YouTube, g-mail, Google maps and many more.
