UN briefing ahead of the world cancer day on Thursday has revealed that the breast cancer has over taken lung cancer as the most prevalent disease throughout the world.

Andre Ilbawai, a cancer specialist at the World Health Organisation told, “For the first time, breast cancer now constitutes the most commonly occurring cancer globally”. He added that, “Lung cancer was the most common type for the last two decades, but is now in second place, ahead of colorectal cancer, which is the third most widespread”.

The expert cited obesity as one of the risk factor prevalent among women developing breast cancer and leading to the increase in the overall number of cancer patients. With the growing population and better life expectancy, the disease is predicted to be more common with the rise from 19.3 million cases in 2020 to 30 million cases in 2030.
